What is foil?

Our foil is a thin (yet durable) layer of metallic material applied to the front surface of your Holiday folded card. It is applied to specific areas: to text, a logo or icon, or the entire surface. When any color ink is applied over the foil it creates a brilliant highlighting effect that seems to change color. Your cards are distinctive and your designs really stand out.

What will my colors look like over foil?

Foil adds brilliance and depth to any color. Held one way, the color appears dark. Held another way, it shines brilliantly through all colors of the spectrum.

To achieve the optimal effect, we upgrade your paper at no additional charge. All foil designs are printed on either 80lb Matte or Glossy Front papers.

When uploading your own design, you will have best results if you apply foil to areas of the design that do not contain black or very dark ink. Dark ink reduces the shine and brilliance of the foil accent.

When should I use foil?

Anytime you want a distinctive look. Foil is perfect for anyone who wants to convey an elegant presentation, artistic flair and unique look.

How does this affect turnaround time?

It doesn't! You can still receive your Holiday folded cards in as few as 3 days!

How does foil compare to other methods?

Foil accents have typically been applied using old fashioned, time consuming methods. Dies are made, and each card is individually stamped. The process can add days, even weeks to a job. This labor intensive technique also adds considerable cost to your project.

Another common technique is to print with metallic inks. You can only choose from a limited quantity of pre-mixed colors and it takes a lot of experience to design with these links. Furthermore, it's hard - if not impossible - to find an affordable printer that will work with metallic inks. Small quantities are priced out-of-reach for the average consumer.

The reflective qualities of our foil process are similar to that of foil stamping and the glossiness is higher than that achievable with metallic inks or coatings. Our customers are amazed at the results. But when compared to the alternatives, perhaps the biggest benefit is our price, speed of production and ease of ordering.
