What’s the difference between a background image and a logo?

A background image shows up behind other elements such as text, photo frames, or other graphics. When you upload your own design to create a fully customized product, you first upload your artwork as a background image. You then have the option to add text or other graphics on top of the original background image. Be sure to specify “full bleed” size when you upload it (you’ll be able to re-size the image later). Products that have an “Upload Your Own Design” button on the product page allow for this option.

A logo is a graphical element used to represent your company or product. It is usually small relative to the size of your product, and appears on top of any background images or design templates that you’ve selected.

In all cases, be sure your designs and images meet our requirements for file size, file format, dimensions, and image resolutions before uploading a file. For complete specifications, review the specs on the product page.

Once I upload my logo will it be saved for future use?

Once you have successfully uploaded your logo and placed your order, you’ll be able to access it for use in new items.

For certain products (Premium Business Cards, Postcards, Letterhead, #10 Envelopes, Return Address Labels, and Business Magnets), if you’ve started to customize a product with a new uploaded logo and wish to return to the project later, please be sure to add the product to your shopping cart before you save and exit the site. If you exit before you’ve put the product into your shopping cart, the product will be saved in My Account for editing, but without the logo.

What is resolution?

Bitmap images are made up of dots or pixels of color in a grid. All these tiny dots of color come together to form the images you see. Bitmap images are resolution dependant. Resolution refers to the number of pixels in an image and are usually stated in dpi (dots per inch) or ppi (pixels per inch). The typical computer monitor has 72 or 96 pixels per inch, depending on your monitor and screen settings.

DPI stands for dots per inch, or the number of dots of ink that fill a linear inch of surface. DPI is also sometimes known as PPI (pixels per inch). A pixel is a dot of color that, combined with other pixels, makes a complete picture on a monitor screen. DPI is used to measure printing resolution -- the higher the dots per inch, the better the resolution and the better the image quality. For example, if an image has a resolution of 300dpi, it means that a square inch of solid color will be filled with about 90,000 (300X300) dots of ink.

What are the acceptable logo or image resolution, color and size?

Please click on the More Specifications link on the product page and review the detailed requirements for your product, including document size and resolution. Image file size acceptable by IntuitMarket is a maximum of 1 megabyte

How do I know my logo meets your resolution requirements?

This can be done in three steps:

Step 1: Note the pixel dimensions of your image. Your graphics design software can help you determine this. (For example: Your image has pixel dimensions of 900 x 1,200 pixels.)

Step 2: Divide the height and width by the resolution required for your product.

(For example: After dividing the 900 X 1,200 dimension above by 600 the result is 1.5" x 2".)

What is the difference between "full bleed" and "trim" sizes for art work and images?

When uploading your own design to a product, the “trim size” refers to the actual size of your finished printed product, whether it’s a postcard, a sheet of letterhead, or another item. The “bleed” area refers to the edges of the art work you send us, which we use to print the finished product and trim it down to actual size.

In general, to prevent unintentional white borders from appearing along the edges of your finished product, you need to extend the background colors and design elements of your art work beyond the trim size. More specifically here’s what we recommend:

Full Bleed Size: Specify "full bleed" size for art work created in Adobe Illustrator, CorelDraw, or other illustration software, as well as in image editing software, such as Adobe Photoshop and Corel Photo-Paint.

Trim Size: Specify "trim size" for art work created in QuarkXPress, Adobe InDesign, and other layout software, but be sure to include the specified amount of bleed you’d like (.137). In addition, when you create a PDF file of your art work for uploading, make sure to include the bleed in your output settings so that the PDF document is at the full bleed size for your product.

For additional questions, please call us at 1-800-955-8890 or send an email to service@intuitmarket.com.

Can Intuit reduce or enlarge the size of my logo?

When you upload your own design, you have the option to crop or enlarge the image with our editing tool. Use the handles on any of the corners of the uploaded image to resize by pulling the corner out to make the image larger or pushing the corner in to make the image smaller. By using the corners, you won’t distort the proportions within the image.
